ARG! Is there a PIRATE in you?

From my big boys to my little boys, we have always had a fascination with pirates in our house. We've done everything from toy swords tucked through the side of their diapers, (As if it were meant to be a sword holder)to uncountable pirate themed birthday parties, (even my daughter had one) going to the opening night of every Pirates of the Caribbean movie, (completely dressed in pirate style of course) making their own pirate movie, and even getting pretty creative with with treasure/scavenger hunts. Truth be told... it's not only the kids, it's my husband and I as well. There's something so exciting about finding hidden treasure!
This weekend my husband and I were able to participate in a geocaching adventure. If your not familiar with geocaching, its a treasure hunt that you use a gps unit to navigate your way to where there is something that someone else has hidden and when you find it you can choose to either leave it or make a trade. I think this is a great idea for summer family fun! I love a road trip! For more information go to http://www.geocaching.com/
Another fun way to treasure hunt is letterboxing. It's the same idea as goecaching but instead you will find a homemade (usually) rubber stamp and an ink pad so that you can stamp your book (like a passport of places where you've been) This is a fun idea for kid because not only can you go, but you can have your own box at your house. Make it a family project designing your own family stamp. You can find more information about this at http://letterboxing.org/
So...is there a pirate in you?
